Bio
I have been practicing law in the Greater Rochester, New York, area since 2009. Over the years, I have refined my practice to matrimonial and family law, assisting clients with divorce, child custody, spousal support, child support, division of assets and debts, and the many other issues that arise with these matters.
We do not take a one-size-fits-all approach to your case; I treat every client’s legal matter as unique. I will speak with you to learn about your individual legal needs, goals, concerns, and desired outcomes, and then we will formulate and execute a customized strategy and plan.
I believe in being upfront about your case. It is my job to play devil’s advocate and explain the pros, cons, and costs of each decision you need to make in this process. I will be upfront and honest with my recommendations and strive to give you as much information as possible to allow you to make informed decisions.
I am currently married to my wife, Ashley, who is also my paralegal. We work together as a team to help our clients navigate these difficult times in their lives. I have a 10-year-old son, an infant daughter, and two mischievous dogs.
I attended McQuaid Jesuit High School in Brighton, New York. I studied at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where I earned my business administration degree with a double major in finance and economics. I believe that my undergraduate degree has been invaluable in assisting my clients with their divorce matters.
I completed three years of law school at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, in a two-year accelerated program focusing on litigation. While in law school, I was admitted to practice law as a law student during my externship at the Eaton County District Attorney’s office in Michigan.
After graduating from law school, I returned to Rochester, New York, with the intention of practicing law with my father, Christopher D. Trotto Esq., who had been practicing law in Rochester, New York, since the 1970s. Unfortunately, he passed away 10 days after my law school graduation.
In 2009, I was admitted to the practice of law in New York. I found a strong interest in matrimonial and family law, assisting parties with their divorce and family court matters.
In 2012, I received the Up-and-Coming Attorney Award from the Daily Record. I later went on to be named a Super Lawyer: Rising Star, for ten consecutive years, from 2014 until 2024.
Over the years, I have tried numerous divorce and custody matters. I never shy away from a trial, but my goal is always to help my clients avoid the costly process of a trial. Unfortunately, there are times when a trial is necessary to fight for your rights, and it’s a process that I excel at preparing for and executing in the courtroom.
I take a sincere and upfront approach to the practice of law. I believe that I should always be 100% honest with my clients regarding the nature of their matter, realistic goals and expectations, and how to achieve these goals economically.
Unfortunately, this area of law has a bad reputation for being litigious and nasty. My goal is to resolve your matter efficiently and economically, taking the necessary steps to protect and advocate for your unique interests.
